The Witcher 3 Developer Explains Why Xbox One Has Exclusive Items

Recently CD Projekt RED had expressed their intention for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to have equal content on every platform. It seems that is no longer the case, as it was revealed that the game will have exclusive items on the Xbox One.

After fan backlash CD Projekt RED co-founder, Marcin Iwiński explained the company’s decision:

What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.

If you still consider that adding two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world to the Xbox One CE equals us betraying our values and not fulfilling our promises, well, it does make us sad, but the final call is always yours to make.

I think it’s safe to assume that the decision for the Xbox One’s collector’s edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to have exclusive items involved some money from Microsoft to CD Projekt RED. However the company did promise more exclusive content for the game will be announced “in the coming months”. Does that mean exclusive content for the other platforms?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to be released on February 24, 2015 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
